Ultra HOT!

When asked what attributes in music shake her soul, Baltimore’s own queen of dance music Ultra Naté says, “I like melodic edgy music with a lot of vocals –lusciously produced.” Ultra also likes the “4 to the floor” kick boom-boom-boom, straight up dance beat, such as in the DJ styles of Tony Humphries and Tommy Davis, both of whom Ultra cites as influences.
The after hours party currently known as “Sugar” has been going strong since 2003 and is transitioning now to “Deep Sugar” and is relocating to club Paradox at 1310 Russell Street. The renaming of “Sugar” to “Deep Sugar” correlates with Ultra’s new record label that shares the same name. This grandiose event will have its “Grand Kick-Off” on June 14th and subsequently every second Saturday of the month thereafter. This Grand Kick-Off is a going home party of sorts because it’s one of those marquis venues from back in the day, only it will present this genre of music in the “correct way.” With an immaculate sound system, lights, and aura, this after hours event is sure to invigorate the Baltimore club scene.
Paradox owner, Wayne Davis, who has been friends with Ultra Naté since the days of O’Dell’s back in the late 80s, have finally joined forces after years of merely sharing ideas. Working with nationally and internationally known DJs, as well as some local talent in the Dance music genre, Ultra explains this is a global phenomenon. “A lot of people in Baltimore don’t realize how much of an impact the Baltimore House scene has had globally.” Several producers from Baltimore have had releases that received internationally recognition and continue to do so. As Ultra puts it, “[Baltimore] is a treasure chest of music culture.”
