More Deeper (Heartbreakbeat) came out last week and is worthy of much more fanfare than it has seen so far. Recorded to tape at Lord Baltimore Recordings (listen to the interview with studio co-owner David Andler here), More Deeper is the bookend to a hectic year for Vincent Black Shadow. Kicked out of their own showcase at SXSW (thanks to the track "Shamanix" from the new album) and getting the boot from a now-defunct record label, VBS' reputation precedes them as one of the most raucous and hazardous bands on the modern punk circuit. Both examples turned out just fine for the band, as SXSW is being exposed for the hype factory and compiling of critical hacks in one city that it is, and the move to Heartbreakbeat puts VBS in good company.
The manifold gets red hot in no time as the eardrum-fracturing "Wooden Kimo" as Adam Savage spews "whatever, whatever, whatever you want" over some pick scraping and/or tremolo picking and a vicious flange that sounds like death incarnate falling upon the world in the form of a sky-blackening machine of indescribable proportion.

Where Mudhoney helped Seattle get a reputation for the music that was coming out of that scene, and Iggy Pop introduced the threat of death or dismemberment to the live show in Detroit, VBS pile it all together into a tasty package that can only come out of Baltimore.
