NEVER NEVER

Power Plant Live
Baltimore, MD
Never Never is a band that’s been around for what seems like forever in the Maryland music scene, and the band itself, is mostly known for their amazing ability to recreate and cover Led Zeppelin songs flawlessly. If you’ve never seen Never Never live, it’s easy to just toss them aside and say that they are just another cover band, but to be honest with you, Spike and the boys really tears it up and they are a tight band. The Rhythm section changes frequently, but the core of the band is Spike on vocals/rhythm guitar and Ron Rebron on lead guitar, and these guys can play some kick ass rock n roll for sure!
The night started off with Kirk McKewen from the KMS Morning show on 105.7 getting on stage and getting the crowd revved up for a night of rock n roll with the Never Never guys, and Kirk is a staple to rock radio in this area...he is probably best known for his tenure at 98 Rock and for Never Never’s first set, the crowd was intimate, but by the time they played their 2nd set, the crowd was considerably larger.
Never Never opened their set with a Led Zeppelin cover (big surprise) and one of the most powerful songs in their first set was a cover of Wolfmother’s “Woman” which rocked! There was a Rolling Stones cover tossed in the middle that kinda slowed things down, but Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold” kicked it back into high gear, and Rush’s “Working Man” was a show stopper as well, but I personally enjoyed the bands cover of “Hot for Teacher” by Van Halen the most because the guitar work was dead on and you can tell these guys love what they are doing, because they are smiling and definitely having a blast onstage, and they even let 2 females from the crowd go up and dance onstage!
There’s something about seeing rock bands play outside, in downtown Baltimore that’s just so intriguing, I mean it’s not really a rock n roll atmosphere, but it also feel so good to see bands play outdoors, because the majority of your rock shows are in dark clubs, or closed in venues where you have the same setting, the same environment, and to see an outdoor show, especially in the Power Plant area in downtown Baltimore is just really special, because that entire area has a really special vibe, it’s like a non-stop party and on this particular night, the weather was amazing, it was mild outside, temperature wise, and everyone there, including the band, were in a great mood and ready to have fun!
