The music of J. Roddy Walston & the Business is not just music. It is a virus. Unlike most viruses it won’t have you laid up for days in bed and does not infect you through common bodily orifices like the mouth and nose. Their music makes its way into your body through your ears and infects your brain. How will you know that you have caught the J. Roddy virus? The symptoms are easy to notice. First, a smile that you won’t be able to wipe off will grow across you face. Next, you will notice the inability to stop your hips from moving back and forth. Then, once the virus has made it course through your entire body you will not be able to keep your feet from dancing. Finally, and this is how you know that the virus has really taken hold, you will pump your fist and sing along. Now if you don’t like to sing, dance, and have your spirits lifted I suggest you avoid J. Roddy Walston & the Business at all costs. On the other hand, if you enjoy piano pounding Jerry Lee Lewis inspired rock then come out this Saturday and let yourself get infected. J. Roddy & the Business play the Ottobar accompanied by Young Sir Jim and The Egg Babies Orchestra. If that is not enough for you and you need a second dose they play a free show, opening for The Hold Steady, Sunday at the Recher Theater in Towson.
