The Rundown

This is the Rundown…
Where you get a taste of what's going down in Charm City. Every Monday we highlight an event for each day. The places you want to be and the people you want to see. I am very sorry this one is coming to you a little late, we had technical difficulties.

The Week of May 21th- May 27th
This will mark the second week of The Rundown. So it would be great to get your feedback. Also, if you don't see shows up you think are worth covering in our events section let Joy know at joy@senbaltimore.com.

Monday (5/21)
RIVER CITY REBELS@ Ottobar
Since they were let go  from Victor Records River City Rebels keeps on truckin’.  I’m not sure what the set list will be or if Danny O’Day will perform any of his songs off his latest album. The opening band is The Ratchets.

Candy Spooky Theater

Tuesday(5/22)
THE CANDY SPOOKY THEATRE @ Sidebar
With Dir en Grey’s performance in December at Rams’s Head and the ever present J-rock performances at the annual Otakon,  Japanese bands are slowly but surely  noticing the potential of touring in the US. It’s always exciting  when a band comes overseas that isn’t from the UK and they will not disapoint.  Also on the bill, German rocker’s Geist.

Wednesday(5/23)
WTMD presents the John Butler Trio
Philly’s John Butler Trio started wih californian/australian  John Butler. Over the years and with many changes to lineup they kpt a tight sound. Although they are a prominent jam band this maturity has blossomed into a great sound.

Thursday(5/24)
JUCIFER@ Ottobar
Indie mags have been raving about Athens (Ga) natives for a while now but that isn’t the biggest reason you should consider purchasing a ticket. They’ve been veterans of grunge/ alternative sound, which some describe as “dirge-metal”, for over a decade going unnoticed. Granted the “Smashing Pumpkins” have gotten back together and people are clamouring to see them but wouldn’t it be better to see a powerhouse of two? If that doesn’t convince you, it’s female fronted with amazing knack for bizarre attire. They play loud and proud, and most importantly they play great.

Friday(5/25)
ALL 80’S NO COVER@ the Depot
Not up on the local dance parties, I hear the Depot is the place to be. Their 80s night is often over looked because just about every club has an 80s night. But this one is the cream of the crop, so I hear.

Saturday(5/26)
THRUSHES and HYMEN @ Lo fi Social Club
The recent demise of Lofi made me question posting this show at all. Thrushes plays like you are in a loud dream that you can’t escape. A good dream full of streaming drums and bass guitar. Hymen is a great experimental project of
There is a big possibilty the show will be moved to another location, so stay tuned…

Sunday(5/27)
DAY TWO of the MARYLAND DEATH FEST
Yes, there are two day’s of the Maryland Death Fest and you should go to both days epecially if you enjoy thrashing death metal in your ear. It’s not as painful as it sounds, unless you intend on joining in the mosh pit fun. This annual festival isn’t for the faint of heart, newcomers beware. With Brutal Truth and Zyklon as headliners this will make for a smash up time. Since the Thunderdome was closed a few years back the Death fest has been held at Sonar, filling up all rooms. This is the line up. This is a historical festival for death metal heads all over the USA and for bands around the world. This is also the only festival I know of in Maryland that, on average, has 10 non-american bands play. Check the Events Calendar for ticket info.
