
An avid Pandora devotee, I regularly hear what I think will be tiny, tour-stagnant. mid-western bands, only to find that they’re playing down the road from my house a few weeks later. Such is the case with Nashville’s The Bittersweets. Lead by Hannah Prater’s sweet, blues-twined vocals, the band saunters through Arlington’s IOTA tomorrow, toting The Life You Always Wanted, featuring the very fine, countryside songwriting of guitarist Chris Meyers. "Some people go to college and discover Marx or Chaucer,” he says, “I found Jimmie Rogers.”

...read more.A good way to start this off is to write about Arlington VA’s IOTA Club & Café. Arguably, the halved Wilson Blvd. storefront (part chic café, part bar) is the best small music venue on the DC area. Plus, they have killer fries and keep their Christmas lights up, year round.
An avid supporter of both local and touring musicians, charity shows, and the local poetry scene, a night spent at IOTA is probably one of the best ways time can be spent. Additionally, Wednesday nights are devoted to the most attentive and well attended Open Mic. night in the area, run by local songwriter Mike Maloney and, the first Monday of every month, to The Federal Reserve, a collection of the most respected DC musicians.
This Friday the superbly painted brick walls host Everyone But Pete and Justin Trawick with an acoustic Honor By August, three excellent bands to enjoy a Friday night with. Tickets are $10 at the doors. With fries, that's $14.75, plus tax.
