Gary Barrett, once known as “Your Imaginary Friend,” has been immersed in the local music scene in Baltimore for many years. Now fronting Gary B and the Notions for over 4 years, the painstaking process of being in a Rock band has begun to blossom. With influences like Elvis Costello and the dynamics most power pop bands envy, GBATN exert a flow of positive energy bound to excite you. But to get a sense of how well this band has meshed and matured, you have to look beyond the band’s nearly 13,000 devoted MySpace friends, beyond just listening to their recorded music.
