Want to save a quick grand? Buy The Local Anesthetic!
A collection of rare singles and little-known gems by punk, experimental, goth, and new wave artists recorded between 1977 and 1983, The Local Anesthetic is the one CD that Time Life would never compile into a cheesed-out TV-only bargain buy. The Frantix's "My Dad's A Fucking Alcoholic" is a bit of a 'pot calling the kettle black', drug-punk coming out of broken amps that caught the ear of Peter Buck and Thurston Moore, both of whom were anxious to learn how the recording was achieved. Other top-bill names attached to The Local Anesthetic include Allen Ginsberg who appears with the Gluons, and the moderately successful Nails.
Two tracks from Your Funeral vocalist Jeri Rossi, originally released as a 7" in 1983, are a pre-riot grrl masterpiece of squawking strings, a feminist suite of epic proportions, most likely single-handedly responsible for some of my favorite bands such as L7, Bikini Kill and the ultimate, Babes In Toyland.
If you broke this album down into what it would cost to get your hands on releases such as the Defex "Psycho Surfer"/"Machine Gun Love" 45, a Holy Grail of punk releases, you're going to save well over $1000. Best to get this CD before it becomes a legend of its own. Click the album art to purchase and thank me for all the money you save.
