An Interview with Niki Barr! The Niki Barr band is one of Maryland’s more interesting bands that blends pop power and rock passion to create a unique sound that’s all their own. I had the opportunity to chat with front woman, and namesake of the band, Ms. Niki Barr, and she gave me some great insight into what the bands been up to.

BERETTA JANE - Keepin' Rock N Roll Sleazy! Ok, so I want to stress something that’s really important about this piece and why I feel like this is an interesting article to read before I start this...this was the first official show, EVER for Beretta Jane and I got the first interview and inside scoop, so it meant alot to me to be able to support the band, give their fans something extra special, and offer the first taste of Beretta Jane to those who are not totally aware of the band just yet.

Skitzo Calypso - Rockin' @ the Recher! It’s interesting...I think the first time I became aware of Skitzo Calypso was several years ago, when i saw them opening for some hair band that probably only had like 3 of the original members, and I remember seeing Skitzo Calypso and I thought, wow, this band has some great hooks, lotsa’ energy, attitude, and I really remember walking away thinking, dammit, that was one of the better local bands I’ve seen in a long time! Since that point, there’s been a few line-up changes in the band, but the core of the sound and stage presence is still lead singer Brad Cox with his interestingly sly stage presence that’s always a little different each time you see him perform, and guitar wiz Bryan Holmes, who I swear reminds me of Steve Stevens from Billy Idol’s band soooo much..he not only looks kinda like him, but he plays just as good if not better!

ANAMIDE's Rockin' CD Release Party! Carroll County’s favorite local band, Anamide, released their new cd on December 14, 2007, and to celebrate the release, the band played a cd release show at Rams Head Live along with 7 Layers Deep and a few other notable local bands, but it was clear that the bulk of the crowd was there in full force to check out the Anamide boys, and they played a strong hour long set that covered all the bases, included most of their new cd as well as their usual closing Pantera Medley of “This Love/Walk”.

Philly Glam Invades Baltimore If you happen to remember the old Thunderdome, which is located in Brooklyn, you might remember that it was a great place to see good rock shows and that the club was known for booking both local and national acts .. then the club changed hands, it was remodeled and then switched over to a dance club, then they started to book rock bands again, then they changed over to a dance club again...hopefully that wasn’t a confusing mess! Flash forward to today: Club Mate has rock bands every Friday and if you haven't been to Club Mate, the decor is interesting. They have stripper cages on both sides of the stage, the club is decorated with trippy designs and it has this retro vibe, but very modern feel..it’s a cool club and I still see it as the old Thunderdome, which was a great rock n roll venue. Ok, enough nostalgia from me on that matter...I went to check out a great Glam Metal show on 12.7.07 at Club Mate. It featured Philly bands The Dropoutz and The Primadonnaz!

A Night at the Recher with 4 of Maryland's best local rock bands It’s easy to just say, "I don’t like local bands, I only want to see the national touring acts," and often times that attitude comes from simply not knowing the local scene.
