Teenage angst and a little bit of tenacity pay off well for Whisteria Cottage.
Many things going on with Baltimore's Whisteria Cottage including a killer show in the near future at Ottobar on March 16 with Rochester's Psyopus, Nashville's Today Is The Day, and Maryland's The Misery Masquerade, as well as three killer new tracks on the band's MySpace page, as if I couldn't have noticed since I get about four bulletins about these tracks a day! It's a good thing I didn't just ignore the bulletins and actually listened to the songs, because this stuff is intense.
"Confined" opens up with bloodcurdling screams and thrash guitars, "Your Broadcast Is Interrupted" growls and chugs with the rage of a band much older than the teenage Whisteria Cottage (singer Mike C. just passed the threshold of the old, wise age of 20), and "Your Cremation, Our Reclamation" has elements of sludge, thrash, doom, and hardcore. These three songs are full of deep growls, punching bass, frantic screams, and string-bending guitar. Bridging a gap between death metal and thrash without playing fast for the sake of playing fast, Whisteria Cottage have handed metal fans a three-song teaser as they (hopefully) prepare a proper release.
Whisteria Cottage are booking a summer tour and need your help. Check the band out, and if you know of a venue they need to play in cities up and down the east coast, contact them.
